Privacy policy
Effective September 29, 2026.
Zweck is a training app for iPhone and Apple Watch, with a website at zweck.app. This page explains what Zweck collects, why, where it is kept, who else handles it, and what you can do about it. It is written in plain words on purpose.
The short version
- Zweck collects what it needs to train you, and nothing for advertising. We do not sell your data, share it with advertisers, or use it for advertising. The app has no analytics, no crash reporting and no tracking.
- Heart rate and route recording are off until you turn them on. Turning them on is your consent. You can turn them off at any time.
- Nothing is shared with other people using Zweck. There is no social feed, no public profile, no public routes and no leaderboard.
- Some of what you type is sent to Anthropic, the company that makes Claude, so the Coach can understand it. It goes without your name, email or account.
- You can delete your account. Your data is removed from our live database straight away and from backups within 30 days. The one exception: if you asked for something Zweck could not do, we keep what you wrote, no longer linked to you or your account, so we know what to build next.
- Zweck is for adults. You need to be 18 to create an account.
- Your data is stored in the United States. More on that below.
Who we are
Zweck is made by Boyd & Company Business Solutions Ltd., doing business as Boyd & Co., in Fort Langley, British Columbia, Canada. In this policy, "Zweck", "we" and "us" mean that company.
Privacy questions: hello@zweck.app.
What we collect, and why
Your account
- Your email address and password, to create your account and sign you in.
- Your date of birth or age band, because Zweck does not create accounts for anyone under 18.
Your goals and training
- Your goals, in your own words, so the Coach can build a plan around them.
- What you ask of a session, and any class description you paste in, so Zweck can build or understand that session.
- Requests Zweck could not serve. When you ask for something Zweck cannot do, it tells you, and keeps what you wrote so we can see what people want and build it. See "How long we keep it" for what happens to these if you delete your account.
- Your training: sessions, sets, weights, reps, rests, how hard it felt, one-rep maxes, saved workouts and favourites, Hyrox races and their splits, and runs, including distance, pace and splits. These are kept on your phone first, so the app works without a signal, and then saved to our database.
- Pain and injury information you choose to give: where it hurts, which side, how much, what kind of pain, and your own description of it. Zweck uses it to work around the injury and to tell you when something is worth seeing a professional about. This is health information, and we treat it that way. Your description is also sent to Anthropic to be understood (see "Who else handles your data").
- A count of how often the app asks Claude to understand something for you, so we can keep our costs within a monthly limit. It is deleted with your account.
Heart rate
Zweck only uses your heart rate if you turn it on. The setting is called Record heart rate, in Account. It is off until you choose to turn it on, and you can turn it off at any time.
When it is on, Zweck uses your heart rate in two ways.
During a race or simulation with your Apple Watch:
- Your watch records the workout, including your heart-rate readings, and saves it to Apple Health on your iPhone.
- Zweck reads those readings from Apple Health and works out an average and a peak heart rate for each run and each station of that race.
- Only those averages and peaks are kept with your Zweck results. Your second-by-second readings stay in Apple Health, under your control, and are not copied to Zweck.
To set your heart-rate zones, Zweck looks through the heart-rate history in Apple Health on your iPhone, once, and finds the highest reading there. It keeps only that one number, as your maximum heart rate for working out your zones. It keeps no other part of your history. This is the highest reading Apple Health happens to have, not a tested maximum: how far back it goes depends on what is in your Health app.
We use them to show you how hard each part of a race was, to let you compare races and stages over time, and to show you time in each heart-rate zone. We will update this section before heart rate is used for anything new.
Turning Record heart rate off stops Zweck collecting heart rate from that point. It does not delete the heart-rate numbers already saved, including your maximum. Those stay until you delete them, using the separate control in Account. Readings in Apple Health are yours to manage in the Health app; deleting Zweck data does not delete them from Apple Health.
We do not use heart-rate data from Apple Health for advertising, and we do not sell it or share it with third parties for their own use.
Routes and location
Zweck only keeps a record of where you went if you turn it on. The setting is called Record my routes, in Account. It is off until you choose to turn it on, and you can turn it off at any time.
With Record my routes off, no record of where you went is kept. Your phone uses your position while you are running, to measure how far and how fast you went. Those positions are held on the phone only until the run ends, and then they are deleted. If you close the app in the middle of a run and do not come back to it, they stay on the phone until you next open the run screen. They are never sent to our servers, never included in an export, and no line is saved with the run. Your run keeps its time, distance, pace and splits.
With Record my routes off, Zweck does not ask for your location to plan a route at all, and the app tells you so on screen.
When Record my routes is on:
- Planning a route. Zweck asks your phone where you are, so the map opens where you are standing and routes can start from there. This position is used on screen and is not kept by Zweck. To draw the map and work out routes, the places involved are sent to Mapbox, without your name, email or account (see "Who else handles your data").
- Running a route. Zweck records the path you take, as a line on a map, and saves it with that run.
Your phone's own location permission also applies: nothing happens until you have allowed it in iOS.
Why this matters more than most data: a route that starts at your front door shows where you live, and a history of routes shows when you are usually out. That is why routes are off by default, private always, and never shared.
Turning Record my routes off stops Zweck asking for your location to plan routes, and stops new routes being recorded. It does not delete routes already recorded. Those stay with your runs until you delete them, using the separate control in Account. Deleting a run deletes its route.
Consent records
Turning Record heart rate or Record my routes on or off, or agreeing to receive marketing, is recorded: which one, whether you gave or withdrew consent, where, when, and which version of the wording you saw. That lets us show what you agreed to. These records are deleted with your account.
Emails
The app sends two kinds of email, neither of them marketing: a note that a goal Zweck could not serve has been received and someone will come back to you, and a note if you try to sign up with an email that already has an account. They are sent through Resend from hello@mail.zweck.app, which is a sending address only. To reach us, write to hello@zweck.app.
We keep a record that an email was sent, as a one-way code made from your address. It cannot be turned back into your address.
Payments
Zweck does not take payments yet. When it does, payment will go through Apple's App Store, under Apple's terms, and this policy will be updated before it starts.
On the website
If you join the waitlist, we keep your email address, send you one email confirming it, and email you when Zweck is ready to use. To be removed, write to hello@zweck.app. The waitlist is separate from your app account; see "How long we keep it".
The website uses no analytics and no tracking. Its fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, which receives your IP address when a page loads.
Who else handles your data
Zweck uses a small number of services to run. Each one receives only what it needs to do its job, and none of them may use your data for advertising.
Apple Health is on your own phone. Apple receives nothing from Zweck. TestFlight and the App Store are Apple's own services, under Apple's own privacy terms.
Like any web service, Supabase and Netlify keep their own request logs, which include IP addresses and times.
We will only share your data with anyone else if you ask us to, or if the law requires it.
Where your data is kept
Zweck's database is hosted by Supabase in the United States (Oregon). Anthropic and several other services above are also in the United States. That means your personal information is stored and processed outside Canada, and may be accessible to courts, law enforcement and national security authorities there under US law.
Your data is encrypted in transit and at rest, including backups.
How long we keep it
We keep your data while you have an account, so your training history is there when you need it.
When you delete your account, it is removed from our live database immediately, and you are signed out. Everything is removed from our backups within 30 days. What remains:
- If you asked for something Zweck could not do, we keep what you wrote so we know what to build next. It is no longer linked to you or your account. It is the only thing you typed that is kept after you delete your account, so avoid putting your name or other identifying details in a request if you do not want them kept.
- The one-way codes showing an email was sent. They cannot be turned back into your address.
- Copies on your devices. A phone or watch that is still signed in and offline keeps its copy until it reconnects, or until you delete the app or sign out.
- The waitlist, if you joined it on the website. It is not linked to your account. Write to hello@zweck.app and we will remove you.
- What other services keep on their own terms: Anthropic as described above, and Resend's, Supabase's and Netlify's own logs.
Your choices and rights
You can:
- Turn heart rate or route recording off at any time, in Account.
- Delete your heart-rate numbers or your routes with the separate controls in Account, while keeping the rest of your data.
- Download a copy of your data, including heart rate and routes, from Account.
- Delete your account in Account, as described in "How long we keep it".
- Ask us what we hold about you, to correct it, or to delete it, by writing to hello@zweck.app.
- Withdraw your consent for heart rate or route recording by turning the setting off.
If you are not satisfied with our answer, you can complain to the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for British Columbia or the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
Adults only
Zweck is for people aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe someone under 18 has given us their information, write to hello@zweck.app and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
When this policy changes, we will update the date at the top. If a change affects heart rate or route recording, you will see the new wording in the app before it applies, and your consent record will show which version you saw.
